WEST VIRGINIA PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION - Lobby Day 2009
02/18/2009

The purpose of WVPTA Lobby Day is to build support and educate others about legislative issues regarding the profession and practice of physical therapy.  As part of Lobby Day, you will be briefed about the current status of key legislation and each participant will be provided with talking points and materials to prepare you for individual meetings with your elected officials.  For strategic and consistency purposes, we urge that you attend the briefing session being offered at the Chapter Office that morning.

To help us in planning for Lobby Day, please pre-register your attendance by February 27, 2009 by contacting Wanda Hymes with WVPTA at 304-345-6808 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

To ensure that our lobby day is a success, it will be important to make appointments with Legislators prior to your arrival.  In addition to meetings, also ask your legislator to recognize your presence during the Floor Session – this is a good strategy to raise awareness that physical therapists are interested and active in the political arena.

Please call the WV Legislative Information and Reference Center at 1-877-565-3447 for the name and phone number of representatives from your area, or check the website at www.legis.state.wv.us

Additional Tips

  • Be prepared to discuss your issues – a packet of information will be provided to you, but personal stories are also effective! Check the WVPTA website for the WVPTA Legislative positions before coming to Charleston.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and a nametag (if you have one). Bring business cards with you to leave with legislators.
  • If you do not get a scheduled appointment with your legislator, be prepared to leave a personal note on company or clinic letterhead, along with your business card and follow up contact information
