Purpose:

The WV Chapter of the APTA wishes to support students in physical therapist and physical therapist assistant education programs in WV who hope to further themselves and their profession by supporting their attendance at one of the following events:

 

  • APTA Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) 

 Applications due to chapter office by October 15

  • APTA Federal Advocacy Forum

Applications due to chapter office by December 1

  • WVPTA Spring Conference 

Applications due to chapter office by December 1

  • APTA NEXT Conference and Exposition
    Applications due to chapter office by February 15
  • APTA National Student Conclave (NSC)
    Applications due to chapter office by June 15

Award amount:

One $500.00 scholarship will be awarded for each conference.  Award amount may be split should applications warrant it.  The sub-committee may recommend to the Education Committee chairperson(s) that the award be split between applicants and provide rationale for the decision. The Education Committee chairperson(s) will make the final determination.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Must be a student at one of the following WV-based PT or PTA programs (can be in any year of the program):
    • Marshall University
    • West Virginia University
    • Wheeling Jesuit University
    • Blue Ridge Community and Technical College
    • Mountwest Community and Technical College
    • New River Community and Technical College
    • Pierpont Community and Technical College
  1. Must be a student member of the APTA/WVPTA at the time of application.  Copy of membership card must be attached to the application.

Process:

  1. Chapter office will send out call for applications to all student members 2 months before the deadline for each scholarship.  
  2. Students must submit full application including all requested documents by the deadline to be eligible for the scholarship. 
  3. Once the application deadline has passed, the applications will be blinded by office staff and sent electronically to the Scholarship Review Sub-committee of the Education Committee within 3 days.  
  4. Reviewers will have 2 weeks after receipt of the applications to score them using the scholarship rubric and make their recommendation of winner(s) to the chairperson(s) of the Education Committee.  
  5. The chairperson(s) of the Education committee will review this information and forward the final determination of award recipient(s) to the chapter office within one week. 
  6. The chapter office will send award letters to the student(s) awarded the scholarship and will send a letter thanking others who applied but were not awarded the scholarship within 10 days from the Education Committee chairperson(s) final decision. 

Student Expectations:

Scholarship winners must submit an article for the WV Chapter Newsletter within a deadline of 30 days past the event for submission for the upcoming newsletter.

  2. Awarded applicants will be notified within 10 days of the final decision for planning purposes.
